This is my first opportunity to communicate with SCSA members since assuming the Presidency. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
Your advice, counsel, and help will be needed and appreciated as we move ahead into conservation's next 50 years.
We had an outstanding golden anniversary celebration in Oklahoma City this summer. All reports have been favorable, with much interest and enthusiasm generated on the part of those attending.
As pointed out during the House of Delegates, SCSA is at a crossroad. Interest and enthusiasm on the part of the members couldn't be higher, yet we are experiencing one of the greatest financial crises in our long history. We ended up $69,767 in the red this past year. The loss in the operating account was more, but gains in the restricted and foundation accounts offset some of the loss. If we are to continue to be a viable organization, we must have the help of each member during this difficult period.
Our first priority for the coming year is to get our organization on a sound financial footing. To accomplish this, the following course of action is being implemented:
