When the headquarters staff first put forth the idea of a special JSWC issue devoted entirely to the subject of non-point-source water pollution control, those of us on SCSA's governing body reacted favorably. No other organization to that point had pulled together research and current thinking on the subject. The special issue would, therefore, permit SCSA to serve as a focal point for information on nonpoint-source pollution. We quickly endorsed the idea.
Over the past year, the editorial staff has been developing this issue. Sorting through the reams of material submitted in response to the “call for papers” and soliciting additional articles to cover voids in the information and literature available proved to be a time-consuming task.
Assisting SCSA with production of the special issue were three governmental agencies that supported the issue with a financial commitment or an agreement to purchase copies as a means of extending the issue's distribution. These agencies are the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Soil Conservation Service (SCS), and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Without this support, the issue would not have been possible.
