In a letter accompanying your first dues notice for 1985, I talked about SCSA's financial picture, emphasizing that your Council felt a year of retrenchment was in order. We adopted an austere budget for this year, which included a freeze on staff salaries, a reduction in benefits for staff, and the decision not to fill an editorial staff vacancy.
We have now been operating under this austere budget for more than six months, and I am pleased to report that our finances are tracking well for the fiscal year.
Revenue for this year also appears on track. We obtained several grants that were not in this year's budget, which helps some. Also, members responded to our request for special donations by providing nearly $9,000 to SCSA's operating account. We were pleased with this response.
