ABSTRACT:

Millions of acres of land in the United States are damaged annually by wind erosion. While some researchers have tried to measure the on-site economic costs of wind erosion, there have been virtually no studies of the off-site economic costs. An empirical study of the off-site costs of wind erosion was conducted in New Mexico. Off-site wind erosion costs were estimated to average $466 million per year, dwarfing the $10 million per year on-site costs estimated in another study.
