IN my last column, I referred to the role of the JSWC in helping the Soil and Water Conservation Society create an environment for excellence in resource conservation. In this column, I want to highlight some steps being taken to make a good JSWC even better.

In our attempt to communicate up-to-the-moment information and opinions on natural resource management problems and issues, the JSWC serves as the Society's principal and most cost-effective tool for professional development. An ongoing series of improvements in the JSWC reflects the Society's commitment to improving the quality of services offered to members.

This first issue of 1989 represents yet another improvement. The choice of a new JSWC printer brings with it perfect binding, which offers greater flexibility in production, and more readable type. A bonus is the new mailing bag, which should allow the JSWC to reach its destination in better condition and enable the Society to mail other professional development materials with the magazine.

Improvements introduced over the past decade include the feature section, with general-interest articles, and the commentary section, with viewpoints covering a wide range of resource issues. By significantly increasing the number …
