AS a professional society of members from many disciplines and institutions, SWCS provides its members with a unique environment for professional development and opportunities to take personal or collective actions that have significant, positive impacts on land and water management. Our members' accomplishments in promoting the wise use of our natural resources have been recognized by decision-makers within government and industry, by leaders of other influential organizations, and by the general public. But even though there is unprecedented public awareness about the environment, SWCS, like many other nonprofit organizations, is struggling to maintain its membership and raise funds for its many excellent programs. What then do we need to do as an organization?

Our success in advocating the conservation of scil, water, and related natural resources depends upon two inter-related factors. One is our ability to attract members from a broad range of disciplines and a variety of public and private institutions. The other is to provide these members with the services that enable them to make a difference in soil and water conservation.
