Welcome to the first issue of the new Journal of soil and Water Conservation. The Journal's new format brings together the best of Conservation Voices and the Journal of Soil and Water Conservation. It will be the flagship publication of the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS)—the face we present to our members, subscribers, and the world at large.
At headquarters, we have been working toward this day since April of 2000. We've surveyed readers of Consewation Voices and the journal, we've looked at dozens of journals and magazines produced by sister organizations, talked things over with the Board of Directors and Publications Board, and worked through the budget numbers. I think we have come up with a format that advances our micsion while staying within our fiscal means.
Although we started down this road largely because the numbers didn't add up-we couldn't afford to produce two top-flight publications for our members—we've continued down it for a better reason.The new Jounial format will bring us back together as a Society.
