ABSTRACT:
The impact of wind erosion on the subsequent growth of pine planted on a sandy outwash soil was quantified. Forty-six-year-old red pine (Pinus resinosa) stands on eroded portions of a Sparta sand map unit had significantly less (P ⩽ 0.003) diameter, height, and site index than did stands on uneroded portions of that unit. The reductions in growth were large, as evidenced by a 42% difference in height.
