AGRICULTURAL conservation policies changed dramatically in the U.S. as a result of the 1985 and 1990 Farm Bills. Now further changes may be in store as Congress in 1993 begins its deliberations on reauthorizing the Clean Water Act and writing the 1995 Farm Sill. More than 400 representatives from agricultural and environmental communities attended me Next Generation of US.
Agricultural Policy on March 14-16 in Kansas City, MO. The conference, a national forum to discuss how current agricultural conservation polices are working, what policies need to be changed, and what new policy approaches might be tried in dealing with agricultural-related environmental problems, was sponsored by the Soil and Water Conservation Society in cooperation with more than 70 leading agricultural and environmental agencies and organizations.
This special edition of the Journal of Soil and Water Conservation includes many of the papers presented at the conference. A white paper, written by Jeffrey Zinn of the Congressional Research Service, also is available by contacting SWCS. …
