The two views are incorporated into farm-level optimization simulations appropriate to semi-arid rainfed agriculture in order to analyze their affect on economic and resource dynamics over the soil horizon. The simulations demonstrate that the two views have quite different implications for recommended conservation methods and for cropping system choice dynamics.
