The program extends tax relief to farmland owners who participate in locally developed and administered programs. It also encourages adoption of local zoning ordinances to identify and preserve exclusive agricultural use zones. Implementation of the program is on a county-by-county basis. Locally developed agricultural land preservation programs are reviewed and approved by the state Agricultural Land Preservation Board, which is attached to the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
