Temporal dynamics of the ichthyoplankton assemblages in the central Aegean Sea during one year and the effects of ecological factors
2024, Regional Studies in Marine SciencePhytoplankton pigment indices and pigment-based phytoplankton size classes along the south-eastern Black Sea
2020, Regional Studies in Marine ScienceCitation Excerpt :Moreover, other phytoplankton pigments (e.g. fucoxanthin, 19-hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin, and 19-butanoyloxyfucoxanthin is accepted as biomarkers for diatoms, prymnesiophytes and chyrsophytes, respectively) show chemotaxonomic associations which may be exploited to map the oceanographic distribution and composition of phytoplankton groups (Barlow et al., 1993; Gibb et al., 2000). The Black Sea, suffered from severe ecological degradations over many decades, is a semi-enclosed and largest anoxic basin in the world ocean (Tolmazin, 1985; Oguz, 2005). The basin receives a considerable amount of chemicals, organic matter and nutrients from surrounded rivers (especially in the western Black Sea from Danube River, (Eker-Develi and Kideys, 2003; Yilmaz et al., 2006)).
Interannual variability of Danube waters propagation in summer period of 1992–2015 and its influence on the Black Sea ecosystem
2018, Journal of Marine SystemsCitation Excerpt :Its discharge is estimated at ~ 200 km3/year (6000 m3/s) (Cociasu and Popa, 2004; Kara et al., 2008), which corresponds to approximately 60% of the total river inflow in the basin. The maximum Danube discharge is observed during late spring (~ 9000 m3/s), and the minimum discharge is observed during autumn (~ 4000 m3/s) (Tolmazin, 1985; Kara et al., 2008; Ivanov and Belokopytov, 2011). Fresh river water plays the most important role in the Black Sea water and salt balance.
